View Two is a video which juxtaposes the voice of a man who lives and works on a narrowboat on Regent’s Canal in London, with images of the interior of his boat. The sound is taken from an interview in which the artist asked the skipper of the boat if he felt attracted to water. As the skipper articulates his view he draws on his experience of boats and boating. He experiences water through the boat; the words he uses to describe a boat such as ‘powerful’ and ‘graceful’ could also be applied to the water which holds the boat. The images in the video, like moving photographs capture microcosmic landscapes of water. The boat, which is a mediator between water and people, seems to have qualities of water abstractly inherent within it.
