Pre-Industrial Antarctic Ice Melt, 2024, 42cm x 42cm, drawing, graphite on paper.

This is the first in a series of four drawings I am currently working on. It is a drawing of a drawing of a drawing. The original drawing was made by a piece of 300 year old Antarctic ice melting on a piece of paper. Before the ice made this drawing of itself by melting, I drew graphite over its surface inside a 26 degrees sub zero cold freezer at British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, UK. The ice was also ‘drawn’ from the ground through a process of drilling and coring. This work speaks to themes of drawing and process, climate and environmental change, mapping and memory.
